Chapter 85

GARBAGE AND TRASH REMOVAL

~ 85-1. Number of weekly collections designated.

Garbage and trash collections shall be made twice weekly from residential dwellings, commercial buildings, apartment units and other specified unit stops within or adjacent to the town limits of the Town of Chestertown.

~ 85-2. Conditions for collection enumerated; compliance required.

All garbage and trash to be collected are subject to and must comply with the following conditions:

A. Fiber boxes and hedge cuttings and trimmings shall be cut up to not more than four (4) feet in length and tied in bundles not exceeding sixty (60) pounds.

B. Newspapers and magazines shall be tied in bundles of not more than thirty (30) pounds.

C. Grass and leaves shall be placed in baskets with a capacity of not more than one (1) bushel.

D. Hot ashes or coals in containers will not be collected.

E. Building materials, explosives, poisons, acids, caustics, dirt, sod or stone will not be collected.

F. Garbage and trash will not be collected if in containers larger than specified below:

(1) For garbage alone, not more than twenty (20) gallons.

(2) For trash, not more than twenty (20) gallons, with a total weight of full trash containers not exceeding sixty (60) pounds.

G. Garbage and trash will not be collected unless placed within a reasonable distance from the curbline of the streets and accessible to the streets.

H. The maximum pickup at any unit stop on the day appointed for collection of garbage shall be two (2) twenty-gallon trash cans, one (1) sixty-pound bundle of cartons, two (2) thirty-pound bundles of paper and magazines, two (2) one-bushel baskets of grass and leaves and one (1) sixty-pound bundle of tree trimmings or hedge cuttings.

I. No garbage or trash shall be placed out on the curb for Monday morning pickup before 9:00 p.m. Sunday evening.

~ 85-3. Collection refused; subsequent action.

In the event that any town resident shall fail to comply with the conditions prescribed in ~ 85-2 of this chapter by arranging, packaging or placing garbage and trash in a manner not consistent with those conditions, the town and its agents may refuse to pick up such garbage and trash. Residents refusing to comply with the above-stated conditions shall be subject to the procedure for enforcement applying to Chapter 54, Brush, Grass and Weeds.
