MINUTES
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
September 18, 2000

Mayor Margo G. Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Councilmembers Harrison C. Bristoll, Jr., W. Whaland Clark, Mabel Mumford-Pautz and J. Brian Kirby, Medford C. Capel, Utilities Manager, W. S. Ingersoll, Town Manager, Joan Merryman, Stenographer, and guests.

Mayor Bailey asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the previous meeting. Mr. Bristoll moved that the minutes of the meeting of September 5, 2000 be accepted as presented, was seconded by Mrs. Mumford-Pautz and carried unanimously.

Mayor Bailey reported that the Utilities Commission had cash on hand and in banks on September 18, 2000 of $481,500.75.

Mayor Bailey called on Mr. Capel for his report. Mr. Capel reported that all of the men in his department had gone through one session on ergonomics and safety training performed by the Maryland Department of Environment. He said the instructor was from the Maryland Center from Training. He said there will be another session on Thursday this week. He said the training was on confined spaces and self-breathing apparatus and are required to meet requirements by MOSH.

Mr. Capel said the new controls for the pumps at the water plants have been installed. He reported that leaks in service lines have been repaired. He said the leaks have occurred in older galvanized pipes.

Mayor Bailey asked if there were any questions or comments. There being none, she asked that the date for the October Utilities meeting be finalized. The Council had previously discussed changing the October meeting due to the absence of some of the members. The Council agreed to hold the meeting on Tuesday, October 17, rather than Monday the 16th. The change in the date will be advertised.

There being no further business Mayor Bailey asked the Council to review the bills. Mr. Clark moved that the bills be paid as presented, was seconded by Mr. Kirby and carried unanimously.

Mr. Bristoll moved that the meeting be adjourned at 7:35 p.m., was seconded by Mr. Clark and carried unanimously.
