MINUTES
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
May 21, 2001

Mayor Margo G. Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. In attendance were Councilmembers Harrison C. Bristoll, Jr., W. Whaland Clark, Mabel Mumford-Pautz and J. Brian Kirby, Medford Capel, Utilities Commission Manager, W. S. Ingersoll, Town Manager, Joan Merryman, Stenographer, and guests.

Mayor Bailey if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the meeting of April 16, 2001. Mr. Bristoll moved that the minutes be accepted as presented, was seconded by Mr. Kirby and carried unanimously.

Mayor Bailey announced that the Utilities Commission has cash on hand and in banks of $610,286.53.

Mayor Bailey called on Mr. Capel for his report. Mr. Capel said that at the previous meeting the Council reviewed the bids for the generator. He said Alban was the lowest bidder, however, at that time he did not particularly want Alban. He said since then Alban has come around and things are running smoothly. He said he would like to order two of the generators at $18,610. Mr. Kirby asked whether the Town would have to rebid the second generator. Mr. Barroll was asked about this and he said we could buy two at that bid price. Mr. Capel said he would like to have one at the far end of Kent Street and one at College Heights. He said at College Heights it would be very difficult to back in a four wheel generator trailer. He said the total cost would be $37,220. Mayor Bailey said there were funds in this year's budget to buy two generators.

Mayor Bailey asked for a motion. Mr. Bristoll moved that the Utilities Commission purchase two generators from the low bidder Alban for $18,610 each, was seconded by Mrs. Mumford-Pautz and carried unanimously.

Mr. Capel reported that since we have had the warm dry weather, we have gone over 800,000 gallons of water use per day. He said there was no problem now with water.

Mayor Bailey asked if there were any questions or comments. There being none, she asked for a motion to pay the bills. Mr. Clark moved that the bills be paid as presented, was seconded by Mr. Bristoll and carried unanimously.

Mr. Bristoll moved that the meeting be adjourned at 7:35 p.m., was seconded by Mrs. Mumford-Pautz and carried unanimously.
