MINUTES
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
October 15, 2001
Mayor Margo G. Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:27 p.m. In attendance were Medford Capel, Utilities Manager, Mabel Mumford-Pautz, J. Brian Kirby, William S. Ingersoll, Town Manager and Zoning Administrator, Whaland Clark, Harrison C. Bristoll, Jr., Jennifer Stead, Stenographer and guests.
Mayor Bailey asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the previous meeting of September 17, 2001. Mr. Bristoll moved that the minutes be approved as presented was seconded by Mr. Kirby and carried unanimously.
Mayor Bailey stated that cash on hand and in banks was $802,948.68.
Mr. Capel reported that two generators were installed and were in operation in College Heights and on Kent Street. He stated that a third generator, for Washington Park, would be delivered in the near future.
Mr. Capel stated that with everything going on in the country , he wanted to report that the Utility Department was in good shape to take care of any problems that could arise in the water department.
Mr. Capel stated that generators would supply water in case of an electrical outage. He stated that each tank and standpipe could be isolated if it needed to be. Mr. Capel also stated that there were sufficient supplies on hand to correct any broken mains. Mr. Capel stated that the reservoir could be isolated, drained, and water could be pumped from the wells if there was ever a contamination problem.
Mrs. Mumford-Pautz asked if the employees were trained to deal with that type of an emergency situation. Mr. Capel stated that there were instructions given to all employees and they did know how to handle it. Mayor Bailey thanked Mr. Capel for all the work he does for the Town.
Mr. Clark moved to pay the bills, was seconded by Mr. Bristoll and carried unanimously.
Mr. Clark moved that the meeting be adjourned at 7:32 p.m. was seconded by Mr. Kirby and carried unanimously.
