MINUTES
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
Novemeber 18, 2002
Mayor Margo G. Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Councilmembers Harrison C. Bristoll, Jr., Whaland Clark, Mabel Mumford-Pautz, and J. Brian Kirby, Medford Capel, Utilities Manager, W. S. Ingersoll, Town Manager, Jennifer Stead, Stenographer, and guests.
Mayor Bailey asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the previous meeting of October 21, 2002. Mr. Clark moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved as submitted, was seconded by Mr. Bristoll and carried unanimously.
Mayor Bailey announced that the Utilities Commission had cash on hand and in banks of $419,889.13.
Mr. Capel demonstrated to the audience the new radio readers for the water meters that were being installed on the homes. He said with the new devices the meters should be read in a week or less, when it had been taking three to four weeks. There were close to seven hundred (700) already installed, another eight hundred (800) were to be installed.
Mr. Capel stated that there had been a leak in the standpipe earlier this year. He wanted to have it sandblasted, painted, and repaired over the winter. He asked the Council if it was all right to get bids for the project. He said there was a maintenance contract for tanks and he wanted to investigate that as well. The Council granted approval for bids and to research maintenance contracts.
There being no further business, Mr. Clark made a motion to pay the bills. Mrs. Mumford-Pautz seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
Mr. Clark moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 p.m., was seconded by Mr. Kirby and carried unanimously.
