MINUTES
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
February 17, 2004

Mayor Margo G. Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Councilmembers W. Whaland Clark, Mabel Mumford-Pautz, C. Harrison Bristoll, Jr. and James R. Johnson, Robert L. Sipes, Utilities Manager, W. S. Ingersoll, Town Manager, Jennifer Stead, Stenographer, and guests.

Mayor Bailey asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the previous meeting. Mr. Clark moved that the minutes of the meeting of January 26, 2004 be accepted as presented, was seconded by Mr. Bristoll and carried unanimously.

Mayor Bailey stated that cash on hand and in banks as of February 17, 2004 was $421,374.10.

Mr. Sipes stated that he had discussed the problem with the communitor at the last meeting. He had received two quotes to replace it, but wanted to retain a third before presenting it to the Council.

Mr. Sipes stated that he purchased and installed a new hose on the jetter because the previous one was damaged in four or five places.

Mr. Sipes stated that the leak behind E&E Seafood had reappeared and there was ice on the parking lot by the curb.

Mr. Sipes stated that he visited Denton because they operated a Brolac system similar to what Chestertown was looking to use for the BNR upgrade. He said that he spoke with the Superintendent about arranging visits for personnel from the utilities department.

Mr. Sipes stated that the pipe that was pulled on Kent Street had been repaired and reinstalled.

Mr. Sipes stated that a pump from the lagoon was pulled and sent for an estimate. The estimate returned at about $3,000.00, so a retrofit pump would be installed for half of that cost.

Mr. Sipes stated that the bills from Bramble were in for the Hickman job and they were in process of being paid, with the property owner splitting the cost.

There being no further business, Mr. Clark moved for payment of the bills, was seconded by Mrs. Mumford-Pautz and carried unanimously.

Mr. Clark moved that the meeting be adjourned at 7:33 p.m., was seconded by Mr. Bristoll and carried unanimously.
