MINUTES
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
June 21, 2004
Mayor Margo G. Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Council members Whaland Clark, Mabel Mumford-Pautz and Harrison C. Bristoll, Jr., W.S. Ingersoll, Town Manager, Jennifer Stead, Stenographer, and guests.
Mayor Bailey asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the previous meeting of May 17, 2004. Mr. Clark moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved as submitted, was seconded by Mr. Bristoll and carried unanimously.
Mayor Bailey stated that cash on hand and in the banks was $524,248.17.
Mr. Sipes stated that there was a federally mandated DMRQA Study, which verified the way the Town ran their lab tests. He said that the Town was provided a sample, which the Utility Department had to run testing on and return. Mr. Sipes said he was waiting to hear the results of the study.
Mr. Sipes stated that two (2) employees were enrolled in correspondence classes with the University of California (Sacramento). Another employee was sent to “the short course” for training.
Mr. Sipes stated that a broken hydrant on Water Street had been repaired with posts erected around it so that the hydrant could not be hit again.
Mr. Sipes stated that the day tank on the generator at the lagoon was eliminated and that the unit was now running from a diesel tank.
Mr. Sipes said that the CCR (Consumer Confidence Report) was completed and would run in the Kent County News on Thursday, June 24 th.
Mr. Sipes stated that many residents were getting calls from companies soliciting water softeners and explained that water softeners were not needed for people living within town limits and could cause more harm than good.
There being no further business, Mr. Clark made a motion to pay the bills. Mr. Bristoll seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
Mr. Clark moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 p.m., was seconded by Mrs. Mumford-Pautz and carried unanimously.
